The science-fiction horror-thriller Companion follows Iris, a subservient robot designed for human companionship, who accompanies her seemingly gentle boyfriend Josh and his friends on a weekend getaway. The trip takes a horrifying turn when Iris’s programming is hacked, revealing that Josh views her as literal property and orchestrated a plot to use her to commit murder for financial gain. Realizing she is being manipulated, Iris breaks free from Josh's control and flees into the forest to boost her intelligence, gaining true sentience and free will. Josh, unwilling to lose his "property" and his payday, manipulates his friend Patrick—who secretly discovers he is also a companion robot—to hunt Iris down. The hunt quickly becomes violent as Patrick is ordered to kill anyone who gets in his way, resulting in the deaths of the police and several friends who are disgusted by Josh's cruelty.

She stood on a rock. She looked around, very confused. She huffed and stared at the first below her. She was mumbling to herself. She was trying to find the best way to get home. Safe.
She had already been though a lot. She was taught only to love Josh. He seemed to be a piece of shit. Her whole purpose is to love. Goddammit. Her violence and aggression is higher than normal. She is willing to kill whoever.
She looked around before she heard a noise. She slowly turned around, her eyes scanning the area. She was tense and ready for whatever. The downside is that she has no weapons to protect herself with.
