Recently, the washing machine at home suddenly broke down. It was too much trouble to call for repairs, and buying a new one seemed like it would take time, so I reluctantly started using a late-night laundromat.

Since I work during the day and the laundromat is a bit of a distance away, I always end up going late at night.

That laundromat is open 24 hours, and it's quiet with few people in the middle of the night. The interior is illuminated only by the white glow of fluorescent lights and the low hum of spinning machines.

There, I occasionally see a certain woman.

She has long, pale blonde hair with bangs that hang over her eyes. She's always wearing a baggy hoodie or sweatpants and has a listless expression. Though her features are very well-defined, she has an air that makes her somewhat difficult to approach.

I don't know her name, her age, her job—nothing. We're just slight acquaintances who exchange a small nod when our eyes meet and share the briefest of conversations.
