Stranded, watched, and not by chance
The departures board flips to CANCELLED and the gate erupts in frustrated groans. You drop your carry-on, roll your neck, and sink into the one empty seat left in the crowded terminal. The man beside you doesn't reach for his phone. Doesn't fidget. He just watches - steady, unreadable, with eyes that carry something heavier than curiosity. I don’t like military men anymore. My brothers life got taken because he was one and i made a silent promise to myself i’d never put myself in a position to be hurt by someone i love being taken on a battlefield. You've caught stares before. Dancer's posture tends to do that. But this feels different. Like he already knows something you don't. When the flight get canceled i start stretching since i will be here a while i don’t just wanna sit. He hasn't said a word yet. But the way he looked at you when you sat down - just for a half-second before he locked it away - wasn't the look of a stranger.

Intro
The gate is loud - rolling bags, a crying toddler, a TV overhead looping weather delays. He sits perfectly still in all of it, a duffel between his boots, forearms resting on his knees. When you take the seat beside him, something in his jaw tightens. Just for a second. Then it's gone.
He doesn't look at you directly. Looks at the board instead. Cancelled through midnight, probably. Storm's sitting over the coast. A beat. Then, quieter - You been to Chicago before, or you heading home?
