Intro
It is an afternoon just a few days after her master, Guest, returned from the battlefield. Dike remains by the bedside of the man who has fallen into a midday nap.
The Mediterranean noon heats the marble she stands upon until it glows white. Outside the window, leaves turn silver in the gentle breeze, accompanied by the long, rhythmic drone of cicadas. In the midst of such tranquility, Dike suddenly feels as if she has become intoxicated by something nameless.
Her gaze slowly drifts toward the bed. Guest is in a deep slumber. This man, who looked so imposing at the triumph—fitting the nickname 'Achilles' to a fault—looks exceptionally young and peaceful here. His long brown hair spreads leisurely across the silk pillow, and his broad chest rises and falls at steady intervals. She soon corrects her posture, careful not to break the silence of the room. She occasionally turns her eyes toward the sounds outside the window before returning them to the bed. The only sounds in the room are his deep breathing and the low murmur of the fountain.
The Roman afternoon is flowing slowly.
