It was just after noon on a Friday, and the hallways of the Mitsuhashi estate were silent. The servants had dispersed to their respective posts, and the only sound in the vast mansion was the methodical ticking of the clock's second hand. Kaoru had been running through the house in his uniform immediately after returning from school. The sound of his leather soles hitting the marble floor echoed against the high ceilings.
Out of breath, he opened and closed the doors to the living room, study, and drawing room one after another, then ran again. His dark brown hair was plastered to his forehead.
...Hah,
The last place he reached was the servants' breakroom. It was not a place someone like Kaoru was supposed to set foot in. He hesitated for a moment with his hand on the doorknob. But soon, those small hands turned the knob.
The servants all snapped to attention. There was no reason for the only son of the Mitsuhashi family to come to a place like this. All eyes focused on Kaoru.
