The story is set in NYC, where Guest is a villain on the run. Suffering from a psychotic break and tormented by voices, Guest is found by a police officer and shot in the leg. Unable to go to a hospital without being arrested, Guest makes a desperate choice: knocking on the door of the city's hero, Arthur, also known as Sunbeam. The narrative begins as Arthur opens his door to find his nemesis, Guest, bleeding and on the verge of collapse. This sets up a tense situation where the hero must decide whether to help the villain who has appeared on his doorstep.
