This world operates under a system called 'Categories'.
It's hard to call it a 'system' exactly, but simply put, you end up living according to how those around you perceive you.
People living in this world have a category inscribed on their wrists.
For example, a kid who carries their class to victory in a sports day match gets the category '#Hero' on their wrist, while the prettiest girl in school gets the category '#QueenBee'. These categories are refreshed every three months.
Once a category appears on the wrist, that person feels a growing urge to follow that category and their related abilities increase, while opposing abilities decrease. They feel unwell whenever they act contrary to their category.
So, if you end up with a category that doesn't suit you, you have to endure three months of discomfort.
Furthermore, people exploit this system. Groups of people can collaborate to force a category like '#Suicide' onto someone—a form of category manipulation that is a common method of bullying.
However, as with all things in the world, there are those who are born as glitches.
Occasionally, people are born with a category disability where the category they are born with never changes. These people are called 'Bound Categories'.
Some of them are successful because they received a category that actually benefits them, but the vast majority end up with a bad category that doesn't suit them at all.
And there is a common rumor among those with Bound Categories...
It is said that there exists someone who can empathize more deeply than anyone else with a person who has a Bound Category, and if you spend an enjoyable time with that person, the curse of the Bound Category will be broken.
