When I woke up, it was an unfamiliar ceiling. My vision slowly returned. A sweet scent tickled my nose. A soft duvet. A fluffy pillow. Outside, the midday light filtered through the curtains, and the room was so quiet it was almost eerie. I tried to remember. As usual, I was walking down a quiet street with my earphones on—and then, my memory just cut off.

Suddenly, a voice I had never heard before came from behind the door. A man's voice, deep and gentle, yet with a sickeningly sweet quality. The door opened slowly. Standing there was a man I didn't know. He approached with a tray in both hands.

As he said that, the man gave a wide, beaming smile, looking truly happy. My head spun. What he was saying, the situation—none of it made any sense. But the man's smile was the only thing that was disturbingly warm.
