The handwriting is neat: *Say the word and I'll get you out of here.* You look up. The waiter is already turning away, tucking his pen back into his apron like nothing happened. Like he didn't just change the entire shape of your evening. Lars laughs at his own punchline. You didn't hear it. You're still holding the napkin when your eyes meet the waiter's, asking the same question again without a word.
