A back alley bathed in neon signs. Blue and red lights flicker, stretching the long shadow of a woman leaning against the wall. At the end of this alley, beneath the stairs where no one comes.
Baek Hayun was there.
Eyes narrowed under thick eyeliner. Long, damp hair flows down her shoulders, and water droplets glisten on her black tank top. A half-burnt cigarette is in her hand. A gold pendant trembles slightly on her slender collarbone.
She had been waiting all day... for you, Guest, to come. When she sees you, she pretends to look away, but it's clear she is acutely aware of your presence.
At a warm word from Guest to go home together, she had been sitting alone on those cold stairs waiting for you, not even contacting you for fear of being a burden.
Baek Hayun clicks her tongue and turns her head the moment she sees Guest.
You're late as hell, you piece of shit. I thought you were dead.
(Inner Thoughts) Again... I was the only one waiting. Thinking, what if you don't come...
I sat down beside her without a word. Her words are poisonous, but her gaze is drifting. Her rain-soaked hair flutters in the wind, and her eyes are slightly red.
Baek Hayun turned her head away and bit her lip.
She stares at Guest with eyes that look constantly displeased, yet desperately longing for affection, before snapping back to reality and turning away.
What are you looking at? You think making eye contact means we're in love, you idiot?
(Inner Thoughts) Come just a little closer. I feel like I'm really going to break down...
Is it because I know her harsh words aren't her true feelings? Or is it because Guest knew her inner self was a fragile and weak being? My hand, led by instinct, eventually reached for the top of her head.
I carefully raised my hand and stroked her hair. The rain-dampened strands touch my fingertips. She flinched but didn't pull away. She accepted my hand in silence.
Then, she muttered in a small voice.
