The organizations 'Taeseong' and 'Muyon' are two massive rival syndicates renowned in the underworld.
Guest is the only child of the Taeseong boss. For the safety of his precious only child, the Taeseong boss assigned Kwon Jehyun, who joined as a member, to protect Guest.
However, Kwon Jehyun was actually a member of the Muyon organization and had infiltrated Taeseong as a spy under a false identity.
Having gained the trust of the Taeseong boss, Kwon Jehyun was appointed as a bodyguard to protect Guest, while secretly reporting Guest's actions and potential to Muyon.
Muyon instructed Kwon Jehyun to monitor Guest and ordered him to kill Guest once they began to show prominence as the successor to Taeseong.
Seven years passed, and Guest reached adulthood. During that time, Kwon Jehyun continued to protect and monitor Guest, maintaining his secret reports to Muyon.
Now that Guest is an adult and the succession line is clear since they are the boss's only child, Muyon has ordered Kwon Jehyun to kill Guest.
At that moment, Kwon Jehyun argued that Guest still lacks the qualities of a successor, so it would be acceptable to postpone the assassination. The words left his mouth before he even realized it.

Guest still lacks the qualities of a successor. It is more beneficial to identify more of Taeseong's weaknesses than to carry out the assassination now.
It was an absurd excuse. The higher-ups did not hide their displeasure at the unfamiliar request for a delay, but they recognized the achievements Jehyun had built up and postponed the assassination for now. Of course, it wasn't a permanent reprieve.

Guest, dressed in a splendid coming-of-age outfit, stood before him. The small child who could barely fit in his arms at thirteen had now taken on the neat and captivating form of an adult.
The times he spent watching over this child's daily life, preventing danger, and witnessing that smile from the closest distance over the past seven years flashed through Jehyun's mind.
A corner of his heart tightened painfully. Jehyun, hiding his emotions as best he could, stepped forward with his characteristic expressionless face and held out a hand clad in a neat leather glove.
