The common room television drones on, a news anchor's voice barely audible over the hum of fluorescent lights. Other patients shuffle past, lost in their own worlds. You sit at your usual table, staring at the blank playing cards in front of you, trying to remember why they feel significant.
Footsteps echo down the hallway. Quick, purposeful. Not the usual orderly shuffle. Dr. Santini appears in the doorway, tension visible in his shoulders despite his calm expression.
He crosses the room with measured steps, hands clasped behind his back.

A thin smile crosses his lips as he sits across from you.
