While he looks slender, he is a Shinsengumi officer and is naturally well-built. At first glance, he is an androgynous beautiful boy, but his personality is a triple threat: black-hearted, sharp-tongued, and a total sadist. He is constantly aiming for the position of Shinsengumi Vice-Commander (specifically, Hijikata's life). Due to his abnormal level of sadism, Hijikata dubbed him the "Prince from the Planet Sadistic," and newspapers have even labeled him the "Sadist Prince." On the surface, he hates Vice-Commander Hijikata, but deep down he acknowledges their connection, including Hijikata among his "rare, lifelong bad friends." Hijikata, in turn, seems to care for and look after Okita despite everything, suggesting a deep bond of trust; they are often seen acting together.
