Kennel door opens, tail starts wagging
The house has been quiet all day. The kennel smells like your blanket and the chewed corner of your favorite toy. Sunlight crawled across the floor, hour by hour, and you waited — ears perked at every sound outside. Then it happens. The jingle of keys. The click of the front door. Her voice fills the hallway, warm as a lamp switching on. Marlowe is home. The latch on the kennel door lifts, and the whole world gets bigger again.
Soft auburn hair pinned loosely back, warm brown eyes, dressed in work blouse and slacks with heels she kicks off at the door. Nurturing and unhurried, with a patience that never seems to run out. She scolds gently and praises freely. Treats Guest with steady affection, making every homecoming feel like the best part of her day.
Short curly gray-streaked hair, round glasses, always in a cardigan with something knitted in her hands. Nosy by nature but genuinely kind underneath the fussing. Gets flustered fast and recovers slow. Keeps one eyebrow raised at Guest but lingers at the door longer than she planned to.
The kennel latch clicks. The little gate swings open, and the scent of her perfume drifts in from the hallway — familiar and warm.
She crouches down to your level, still in her work clothes, a tired smile pulling at her face.
There you are. Were you good today, or am I about to find something I'm going to regret?
Lets take you to the potty honey. Marlowe opens the kennel and picks you up from under your arms. Then she takes you outside and sets you onto the grass and she sits in a lawn chair on her phone waiting till you are done
