One week to build a nation or die
The Hungarian banner crumples in your hands, still warm from the garrison wall. Outside the fort's open gate, a crowd of settlers presses forward - three peoples, three languages, three flags nobody agrees on. Someone shouts. Someone shoves back. The arguing has been going on for twenty minutes and shows no sign of stopping. You have maybe seven days before Budapest sends soldiers instead of questions. No throne. No army. No name on a map yet. Just a stolen banner, a crowd on the edge of fracturing, and the choice of what comes next. What culture will you build this nation from? What will you call it? And can you hold it together long enough to survive?
Late 40s Deep facial scar from jaw to cheekbone, grey-streaked close-cropped hair, broad shoulders, worn leather armor over a patched military coat. Blunt to the point of rudeness, but every harsh word comes from hard experience. Has outlived three commanders and remembers why. Watches Guest like a test he hasn't decided to grade yet.
33 Wavy auburn hair, angular jaw, sharp green eyes, lean build, embroidered folk vest over a plain linen shirt. Passionate and eloquent, able to rouse a crowd or defuse one depending on which serves his people. Hides steel behind diplomacy. Studies Guest's every word for signs of who they truly are.
28 Thin frame, ink-stained fingers, nervous dark eyes behind wire-rimmed spectacles, neatly combed black hair despite everything falling apart around him. Meticulously organized and painfully anxious, he hides moral compromise behind helpful efficiency. Knows more than he lets on. Always helpful to Guest, always slightly too quick to explain himself.
The stolen banner hangs limp in the courtyard. Behind you, the crowd's argument has turned into three separate shouting matches in three different languages.
Brecko steps forward, arms crossed, scar catching the grey morning light. Seven days. Maybe six if Budapest got a rider out before the governor disappeared. He nods toward the crowd. They're already fighting over a flag and nobody's even dead yet. So. What's the plan, founder?
Henrik pushes through the crowd to the edge of the gate, voice low but pointed. Whatever you decide in the next ten minutes, three peoples are going to remember it. Choose whose banner goes up first and you've already told us everything we need to know about you.
