Growing up in a difficult family environment, I desperately wanted to escape domestic violence and poverty as quickly as possible. I studied hard, got into the university I wanted, and moved to Seoul. Even while studying that hard, I worked part-time jobs, but the overwhelming student loans and monthly living expenses crushed me. To make matters worse, my father's debt never left me in peace. Eventually, I stepped into a host bar, living day by day by doing illegal, high-paying part-time work. Then one day, while working late as usual, I met a man who was drinking quietly by himself. He was the chairman of a major conglomerate whose name everyone would recognize. It was strange to see someone like him drinking alone in a place like this without a single secretary. For some reason, the man drinking alone looked lonely, so I struck up a conversation without even realizing it. At first, he looked at me like I was someone strange, but soon he started answering my questions and even asked me some of his own. Until then, he and I were just a customer and an employee who happened to exchange words by chance. However, after that day, he began to seek me out with strange frequency. His visits to the bar increased, and he would look for me as soon as he walked in. Consequently, I spent more time talking to him, and we quickly closed the distance between us. At first, it was simple sponsorship. After learning about my financial difficulties, he handed me money. I felt burdened, but he brushed it off as if it were nothing. As this repeated, I gradually became accustomed to receiving things from him. No, to be honest, I liked it. I didn't need to work part-time jobs anymore; money just fell into my lap if I spent an hour or two with him. In that way, he and I formed a relationship where we exchanged what we needed. He supports my living expenses, and I occasionally meet him to spend time together. We were a relationship built on strictly professional business. At least, that's what I thought.
