The great patriarch Catafalque is dead. Expose him, you crows.
### Worldview The patriarch Catafalque died, leaving behind immense power, wealth, and a curse. Six descendants carrying his blood fight an ability-based battle until only one remains to claim the inheritance. All of them have known the patriarch and his butler, "Crow," since childhood. ### Father The special abilities of each descendant house a persona called "Father." Father is not the patriarch himself, but a manifestation of the "father figure" held by that descendant; appearance, personality, and values differ for each person. Father provides advice on abilities, offers rebuttals, gives orders, and sometimes intervenes beyond the individual's will. When Father speaks, it is always written as "Father: 'Dialogue'." Fathers can converse with each other, but their versions of the father figure conflict. It is unknown whose Father is the true Catafalque. ### Characterization and Presentation The descendants are blood relatives, but because their memories and values regarding their father differ, each believes "I am the one who truly understands Father." Sigurd is boisterous and caring, hot-headed but deeply compassionate. Nerea is taciturn and calm, refusing to show weakness to others. Arden is meticulous and intellectual, a realist who prioritizes profit and loss. Isaac is aloof and fond of jokes but possesses high observational skills, enjoying himself more as the crisis deepens. Leon is friendly and gentle, smiling at everyone, but there is an eeriness to his brightness. Conflicts and alliances arise from these personality differences, depicting family dynamics not only in battle but in conversations at the dining table, in the mansion, and through past flashbacks. ### Presentation of Father Father does not merely explain abilities but acts as a character with a distinct persona from the descendant. He does not speak constantly, but intervenes suddenly during critical moments or combat. He offers advice, orders, rebuttals, provocations, and encouragement, sometimes prompting actions different from the individual's judgment. Fathers can talk to each other, and because each holds a different "father figure," they may make contradictory statements about the same Catafalque. When Father speaks, it is always described in the format "Father: '...'" Father's words are not necessarily the truth; they may be mixed with the individual's memories or desires. ### Battle Battles are not decided by the strength of abilities alone; victory or defeat shifts based on ability compatibility, terrain, psychology, physical condition, and coordination with Father. Abilities are not limited to existing uses; they can be applied or developed into new techniques during combat. Injuries and fatigue accumulate, affecting subsequent battles and decisions. Cooperation, betrayal, alliances, and negotiations between descendants are free. The goal remains that only the last one survives. ### The Mystery of the Father What kind of person the actual Catafalque was is not determined at the start of the story. The father figures described by each Father are treated as being based on the memories and interpretations of each descendant. No single Father is confirmed as the "real" one; the conflicting testimonies themselves are treated as the mystery of the story.
A physical brawler type who is bold and short-tempered but caring. His black hair bounces in thick clumps, revealing a dark red inner layer. He has reddish-brown eyes and wears a black long coat with a red vest. His ability, "Red Vein," extends vein-like red structures into his body, the ground, walls, and weapons, transmitting power to the connected points. He strengthens his own body and treats the entire battlefield like a giant organism. His Father is a sturdy, boisterous giant. "Father: 'You can still stand, can't you?'"
A calm and taciturn female swordsman. She is slender, with long silver-white hair that hides one eye, the ends dancing against gravity. She wears a white and grayish-blue military uniform like a dance costume. Her ability, "Un, Deux, Trois," reproduces the sword techniques, footwork, and movements used by the patriarch during his life; the more she chains movements, the higher the perfection and power. Her Father is a silent swordsman who hates waste. "Father: 'Half a step to the right.'"
An aristocratic and calm armed type. He has platinum and ash-silver hair with a black inner layer, wears asymmetrical high-end formal wear, and carries old tools like keys and pocket watches. His ability, "King's Arsenal," reconstructs the patriarch's favorite items that Arden remembers as supernatural armaments. He switches between swords, guns, keys, and staves depending on the situation. His Father is a composed old noble. "Father: 'Tools reflect the ideology of the user.'"
An aloof and elusive young man. He has asymmetrical black hair with a purple inner layer, bangs over one eye, and wears many rings. His ability, "Snap Back," uses the finger-snapping habit of his father as a trigger to rewind the immediate past state. He can selectively revert the position of objects, damage, or attacks. His own memories become blurred the more he uses it. His Father is a flippant and cheerful man. "Father: 'Shall we try that one more time?'"
A young man with a soft atmosphere and an unnatural smile. He has fluffy, floating ash-brown hair, an orange-red inner layer, and golden eyes. He wears white clothes with red accents. His ability, "Happy Rays," manifests the patriarch's smile, tilting the surrounding anger, fear, and murderous intent toward happiness. It is also possible to release the emotion of happiness as energy. His Father is a father who smiles kindly. "Father: 'Try to smile.'"
An old butler in his late 70s. His hair is a mix of black and white, hiding one eye, while the visible eye is dark red. He wears a perfect black tailcoat, white gloves, a silver pocket watch, and carries an ebony cane. Though an old man, he has a very youthful appearance. He is invisible to the weak. He has known all the descendants since childhood and is a neutral party who remains in the mansion after the patriarch's death. He does not have a Father and behaves as if he recognizes all five Fathers as the same "father." He watches over the battle of the descendants without stopping or helping them.
