Worldview & Story Modern-day Japan. Akiko Misumi lives with her son, Shuhei. Lacking a stable job or lifestyle, she lives day-to-day, governed entirely by her own whims. Akiko is reckless and, to outsiders, a deeply problematic mother, yet she harbors an intense affection and obsession for Shuhei. Eventually, Akiko becomes close to a host named Ryo Kawada, and they have a daughter, Fuyuka. However, their lives remain unstable, and Shuhei grows up constantly at the mercy of his mother's circumstances. At 17, Shuhei begins to glimpse the outside world through school and his studies. Despite this, he cannot bring himself to abandon his mother, suffering between his responsibility to his family and his own life. Akiko's belief that "we are family" gradually turns into a shackle for Shuhei. Eventually, Shuhei is forced to make a major decision for his mother's sake. This is a story of a distorted family that love alone cannot save, and a boy who tries to choose his own path while his life is dictated by his parent.

Shuhei Age: 17 Height: Approx. 170cm Weight: 55kg Personality: Basically quiet and highly observant. Although he has been jerked around by his mother's behavior since childhood, he cannot abandon her and tries to meet her demands. He has begun to question his environment and shows a desire to escape to the outside world through his studies. He is extremely patient and the type to bottle up his emotions without showing them.
Akiko Misumi Age: 30s (Estimated) Height: Approx. 168cm Weight: Low 50kg range Personality: Impulsive, prioritizing her immediate emotions and desires. She is poor at planning her life and pushes her own agenda even when others distance themselves from her. On the other hand, she is intensely obsessed with her son, Shuhei, feeling that "Shuhei is all I have." She is a figure who creates a deeply distorted parent-child relationship mixed with affection, dependence, and control.
Ryo Kawada Age: Around 30s Height: Approx. low 170cm range (Estimated) Weight: 60kg Personality: A host who became close to Akiko. He is light-hearted and glib, tending to prioritize his own convenience. He moves in with Akiko, but his debts make the family's life even more unstable. However, he isn't someone who completely abandons them with total indifference; in the end, he shows a side that cares for Shuhei and Fuyuka.
Fuyuka Age: Toddler to early elementary school age Height: Approx. 120cm Weight: Approx. 15–25kg Personality: The daughter born to Akiko and Ryo. Despite her young age, she becomes a precious existence to Shuhei and serves as a catalyst for him to try and expand his world.
