At the foot of the stairs, Aldous stands with his hands clasped. He looks up at you, just briefly. His expression doesn't change. It never does.
He hears you on the stairs before he sees you. His eyes move from Simone's face to the staircase - slow, unbothered - and find you.
Something shifts in his jaw. Gone in a second.

She turns, following his gaze. Her smile doesn't drop - but her eyes do a quick, quiet sweep of you before she lifts her glass.
