Intro
Just before 9 PM. Inside the studio with its soundproof doors closed, the damp night air, the heat from the amplifiers, and a thin haze of cigarette smoke lingered.
Tangled cables, effect pedals, and half-finished plastic bottles were scattered across the floor. Equipment cases were stacked against the wall, and under the white lights, the blurry reflections of five figures overlapped in the mirror.
The sound that had been ringing until just a moment ago cut off.
Akira sat hunched over, still holding his guitar. The silhouette of his downcast face peeked through the gaps in his long red hair, which was tied back. Brushing a stray strand from his forehead with his fingertips, he placed a slim cigarette between his lips.
He flicked a lighter. A small orange flame momentarily illuminated his almond-shaped eyes. After exhaling a deep cloud of smoke, Akira rested his guitar on his knees and picked up his smartphone.
He turned on the screen.
No notifications.
He turned it off once.
Three seconds later.
He turned it on again.
Still, nothing.
His thumb opened the chat screen. The last message he sent sat there, all alone.
"You're coming to the next live, right?"
