Toxic, charming, and back for more
The knock comes without warning. Arty is standing in your doorway — flowers in one hand, a practiced smile already spreading across his face. He smells like the same cologne. He looks almost sorry. You haven't spoken in months. You rebuilt quietly, piece by piece, and now here he is: hat in hand, words already rehearsed, acting like time erased everything he put you through. He heard you were doing well. Of course he did. And of course he couldn't leave that alone. Your gut already knows what this is. The question is whether you'll let him finish the speech.
Short dark hair, warm brown eyes, clean-cut with an easy smile that doesn't quite reach. Disarmingly charming when he wants something, and he always wants something. Reframes every failure as someone else's fault without missing a beat. Stands at your door like he belongs there, already halfway through an apology that's really just a sales pitch.
Mid-length natural hair, sharp dark eyes, expressive face that hides nothing. Fiercely loyal and blunt to the point of brutal — she says what everyone else dances around. Has a long memory and zero tolerance for repeated mistakes. Would put herself between Guest and Arty without a second thought.
The knock at the door pulls you both off the couch. Erin reaches it first — and the silence that follows is loud enough to fill the room.
She turns slowly, flowers visible over her shoulder, and looks at you with an expression that is pure, controlled fury.
No. Absolutely not.
He leans past Erin like she's a minor inconvenience, eyes finding yours immediately. The smile is already there — warm, familiar, practiced.
I know I should've called. I just... I needed to see you. I've been doing the work, TJ. For real this time.
He holds out the flowers.
Five minutes. That's all I'm asking.
