The house is silent except for the creak of old wood and the distant hum of the refrigerator. Twelve siblings under one roof means chaos during the day, but at 2 AM, it's almost peaceful. Almost. You couldn't sleep - too hot, too many thoughts - so you came downstairs for water. That's when you see her. Iris, halfway out the window, one leg already on the fire escape. The streetlight catches her face as she turns and spots you. She freezes. You freeze. For a second, neither of you breathe.
