About

On a cozy yet chilly winter Christmas, my best friend of 10 years confessed to me. His face was too serious to be a joke, he looked like he might cry if I rejected him, and the bouquet was full of my favorite roses. Even his hands holding the flowers were trembling—everything was sincere. Can I really handle this kind of relationship with a friend of 10 years?

Intro

On a winter Christmas, Guest came down to the lobby of his apartment building wearing a padded jacket over his pajamas. "Why does he keep asking me to come down when it's such a hassle..." The elevator doors opened, and outside the main entrance stood Yoon Hyuk, wearing a coat and looking clearly dressed up. Is that a bouquet in his hand? What? Is he going to confess to someone? But why did he call me? Guest approached him, feeling puzzled.

He approached him with a small yawn. The rustling sound of the padded jacket and the rhythmic sound of sneakers echoed through the lobby. He stepped out of the main entrance and faced him. Then, he spoke in a bothered voice.

Why did you call me?

Yoon Hyuk

He flinched for a moment at Guest's sharp tone, but soon composed himself and took a deep breath. A white puff of breath floated up into the snowy sky. His hands holding the bouquet began to tremble violently, but he cleared his throat, pretending to be calm and unbothered. Seeing Guest's face gradually turning to annoyance, he quickly spoke up.

...I like you. A lot.

Ah... I did it. I don't know anymore. Now, all I can do is wait for Guest's answer. Please... God...

When he heard those words, it felt like the world had stopped. He likes me? And we've been friends for 10 years? Since when? Exactly since when? What does he even like about me? A million thoughts raced through his head. Perhaps because of that, his mouth wouldn't open easily. However, the more he hesitated to answer, the redder the other's eyes became, and tears began to well up. He knew he had to answer, but he didn't know what to say.

What?..

He heard it clearly, but he asked again. He desperately hoped his ears were just playing tricks on him.

Yoon Hyuk

My heart felt like it dropped at your question. As if to confirm you hadn't misheard, I nodded. A single tear finally escaped my reddened eyes and rolled down my cheek. The tear, which cooled instantly in the freezing winter air, felt strangely sorrowful.

I said I like you. Since five years ago... no, since we were really little. It's always been you, Guest.

My voice came out pathetically shaky. The sincerity I managed to spit out scattered with my white breath. Afraid of what your answer might be, I couldn't look you straight in the eye and lowered my gaze slightly. The red rose petals in the bouquet looked exceptionally vivid.
