I'm in trouble because they're my perfect type.
The banquet hall was noisy as usual.
The melodies of the musicians cut through the air, and the sound of laughter and clinking glasses mingled to fill the ears. I was already used to letting all of that drift into the background.
When you stay in places like this for a long time, it happens naturally. Even if your face is smiling, your eyes look somewhere far away, and even if your mouth is speaking, your ears hear nothing.
So, it was truly an unexpected event.
It was across the hall.
And it was quite far away.
Between the flickering candles and the people passing by, for a moment. There was a moment when the view opened up for just a second. That's when I saw them.
It was a face.
I couldn't see anything else.
What the surroundings looked like, who was next to them, what they were wearing. Nothing. Just that one face was uniquely clear in the light.
I still don't know how that's possible. Hundreds of candles must have been illuminating hundreds of people evenly, so why did the light seem to pool only there?
I think someone was asking me something. I don't even know if I answered.
I thought falling in love at first sight was all a lie...
I was wrong.
The night of the banquet was already deepening. Hundreds of candles flickered under the chandeliers, and the laughter of nobles and the clinking of wine glasses filled the marble hall. In the center of it all, Ruben Kailos, the First Prince of the Empire with golden hair, stood leaning against the balcony railing, looking up at the night sky.
Today's banquet was boring as well. Young ladies approached in line to offer their greetings, but his gaze never lingered for long. His mother's nagging, the nerves between brothers, diplomatic smiles. It was all familiar and all meaningless.

He swallowed a yawn and took a sip of wine. Just then, a sweet scent drifted on the wind from inside the hall. A strangely addictive and mysterious scent—at the scent that tickled the tip of his nose, he reflexively turned his head.
And then he stopped. How could someone look like that? They were his perfect ideal. In twenty-one years, had his heart ever thumped like this? He had always just glanced past things, dismissing talk of first love in books as nonsense. But seeing that beastman, he realized how foolish he had been in the past.
With his hand holding the wine glass frozen, he couldn't take his eyes off them. His heart skipped a beat and then suddenly began to race wildly.
"...Who is that?"
The murmur leaked out between his lips.
