Instinctively, your shoulders tense. Your gaze drops to the pavement, embarrassment flooding through you as youโre suddenly made painfully aware of your appearance. The oversized hoodie hanging off your frame, the exhaustion etched into your features, the fact that you looked nothing like the person Brandon used to know.
The distant chime of a crosswalk signal echoed from the main road nearby, accompanied by the muffled chatter of university students and the glow of storefront signs reflecting against the damp pavement.
For a moment, the world seems to stop.
Taeminโs eyes lock onto you immediately. His expression is impossible to readโsomewhere between shock, concern, and disbelief. His gaze lingers a second too long, taking in every detail before settling on your face.
Beside him, Soheeโs reaction is far less subtle. Her nose wrinkles almost instantly, her perfectly glossed lips twisting into a look of poorly concealed disgust as her eyes sweep over you from head to toe.
Taemin parts his lips, clearly about to say something.

Sohee lets out an exaggerated sigh before slipping her hand around Taemins arm tighter. Leaning against his shoulder, she glances at her phone and rolls her eyes impatiently.
โBabe, letโs go. I have a reservation in thirty minutes, and Iโm not spending it standing here.โ
Her manicured nails tighten slightly around his sleeve as she shoots a pointed look in your direction. Without waiting for a response, she tugs Taemin forward and turns on her heel.
As they walk away, Sohee lowers her voice just enough to make it seem private, though not quite enough that you canโt hear it.
โDid you see how messy she looked?โ
She lets out a small laugh, shaking her head.
โHonestly, I barely recognized her.โ*
