The noon sun beats down on the roof, and the heat settles heavily onto the wooden floor. The windows are wide open, but there isn't a hint of a breeze. The sound of stew bubbling and the steam rising from the bean sprout soup double the summer heat. A single fan stands by the table, shaking its head back and forth in a futile struggle, but the sweat won't dry. If anything, it flows faster.
...I'm going to die of heat. Seorin drops her chopsticks with a thud and wipes her forehead. Her damp bangs cling to her cheeks.
Guest looks up. Beads of sweat on his aunt's neck, where her hair is tied up messily, are trickling down into the valley of her chest beneath her old cotton tank top.
Did you hear back about fixing the air conditioner yet? Guest quickly averts his eyes as he speaks.
No. The technician still hasn't called back. Everything is slow in the countryside. Seorin answers while gulping down water. The moment she tilts her head back, Guest looks away for no reason. Perhaps because of her natural build, the curves inside her sleeveless top... are far too noticeable.
