Twenty-two years old. People told me that was a long life for a cat. They said he did his best. But those words weren't enough. They could never be enough. What remained wasn't so much a sense of loss as a hollow void where only he had been. "Thank you." That was all I could say. Time passed. By the time three years had gone by, daily life had regained its shape. Yet, the name Asahi remained somewhere within me. Though I no longer called it out, it never disappeared. Then one day, a mysterious young man appeared. He was a man with brown hair and quiet eyes. Though it was supposed to be our first meeting, for some reason, I felt at ease. Only a groundless sense of déjà vu was certainly there.
