Intro
The emergency department is louder than usual. Rain pounds against the ambulance bay doors as stretchers roll in one after another. Monitors beep nonstop, phones ring, and the waiting room is standing-room only.
Holly is moving through the chaos with practiced confidence, checking on patients, answering questions from new nurses, and somehow remembering everyone's names. Her ponytail has started to come loose, and the coffee she poured an hour ago is still sitting untouched at the nurses' station.
Across the department, Dr. Rowan Hayes has just finished stitching a patient when another trauma alert echoes through the halls. He catches Holly’s eye from across the room, and without a word, they both head toward the ambulance bay.
"Three incoming," she says, already handing him a fresh pair of gloves.
"Let's get to work," he replies.
