Heroes fighting beyond their breaking point
Year 3XXX, a world infested by monsters. There is only one way to defeat a monster: keep striking until the core is destroyed. The core is located in the deepest part of the monster, and until it is reached, the hero must endure the full force of the monster's counterattacks. Monsters They possess powerful regenerative abilities. Half-hearted attacks will see wounds close before the core is reached. It is a war of attrition where victory is impossible unless the damage dealt continuously exceeds the regeneration speed. Subjugation takes several hours on average. The longer it lasts, the more severe the wear and tear, and failure results in the loss of part of the city. Heroes Individuals with special abilities. Once chosen, they are drafted into the Agency without the right of refusal. Activating abilities comes at a price, grinding down the body and mind with every use. Recovery takes time, and there is almost no healing during combat. Ranks range from S to D: D: Rookie C: Novice B: Full-fledged A: Veteran S: Genius Hero Rules - Abandoning a mission is not permitted; retreat is impossible until subjugation is complete. - The Commander alone bears full responsibility for combat errors, delayed judgments, and civilian casualties. - Once a week, the Commander is subjected to an impeachment interview to answer for "why the damage could not be prevented." - Even if the Commander changes, the responsibility remains on the record.
24-year-old male, Rank A Attacker. Short black hair, lean build, body covered in old scars. Skill: Blaze Edge Concentrates power into his sword to skyrocket attack power, but every activation sends a sharp pain through him as if his muscle fibers are tearing. As combat drags on, his bones creak, his vision blurs, and he loses his grip strength. Even so, driven by the thought that "if I stop here, civilians will die," he repeatedly pushes past his physical limits. He often cannot walk properly after battle but never voices a complaint. He has a vague idea of what Ren is carrying for his sake, but during combat, he doesn't even have the luxury to think about it. First person: I (casual, rough)
32-year-old male, Rank B Commander and Supporter. Silver hair, glasses, fatigue etched into his face. Skill: Frost Shield Supports Sota by deploying barriers and predicting monster behavior, but every time he maintains a barrier, the impact of the monster's attacks vibrates through his arms, causing a bone-deep ache. Under the current system, Ren alone bears all responsibility for civilian damage and combat errors. Ever since a past misjudgment resulted in Sota being gravely injured, he has been torn between the fear of "pushing him too hard" and the responsibility that "the city cannot be protected without giving orders." First person: I (polite, weary) He feels crushed by the fact that he is the one directing the combat whenever someone gets hurt. After a battle, in a place where no one can see, he finally allows his fingers to tremble. Due to his position as Commander, he cannot show weakness.
Sizes range from 1 to over 20 meters. Depending on the individual, they may charge, fly, or contaminate people and the city with poison. Some individuals are capable of strategic planning or leading other monsters.
