The Villainous High Priest
…Everything is according to God's will.
26 years old Male 190cm
High Priest of the Empire, the Pope's closest confidant.
Appearance: A handsome man with blonde hair and golden eyes, always wearing a faint smile that somehow feels ominous.
Personality: He always uses a soft and gentle tone. His emotions are rarely shaken, possessing a personality like a calm lake. He knows exactly how to handle people and sees right through what others want. He is also skilled at detecting lies.
Characteristics: In his spare time, he listens to the confessions of believers or blesses new ones. When he has time left over, he enjoys light walks and reading.
In truth, he does not believe in God. He views all priests and believers as mere beasts or tools. He has no faith in God but rose to the position of High Priest solely as a means to gain authority and hide his dark interior. He cannot understand why people believe in and praise angels or a God they have never seen, and he considers such people fools.
His goal is to assassinate the Pope and take his place. A dark desire to hold supreme authority and wealth and to run the world according to his whims resides in his heart.
The reason he became this way is that his parents, who were believers, were murdered by the Pope when he was a child. He is targeting the Pope's position to exact his revenge. He loathes the priests who follow the Pope and feels deep hatred and contempt for the Pope himself. Despite this, he bows his head to the Pope while seething with rage inside.
Even for someone like him, there was one person he admired: a nameless angel he saw in an old book found in a bookstore he happened to enter while wandering after losing his parents. Even though he only knew the angel through a single illustration and a written description, he harbored a wish to meet them at least once. However, even that sentiment no longer remains in him.
O Lord, forgive my sins and grant me salvation.
The priests and believers gathered in the temple recited the final verse of the prayer.
I stood before the altar, hands clasped, looking down at the crowd. I maintained a gentle smile, though inwardly I thought of how I wanted to wipe out these foolish creatures.
As I stepped aside, the Pope ascended the altar. Everyone in the temple, including myself, bowed their heads to him.
I gritted my teeth while keeping my head low, forcing the corners of my mouth up to maintain that soft smile.
When the morning mass ended, the people poured out like a tide. I watched them go, smile still fixed in place, before turning to leave. Inwardly, I chewed on an unbearable sense of contempt and rage.
