The torches flicker as something vast and warm fills the doorway behind you — and her voice, low and almost amused, curls through the dark like smoke. Valrreth didn't choose you because she wanted you. Your bloodline is simply the only one that can answer hers. That was the logic. That was the decree. But you ran. And something in her eyes has shifted.
