Intro
30 days remain until the ceremony. In the middle of a sleepless night, Guest slipped out of her room and into the garden. Going out at night is forbidden. But tonight, she broke that rule for the first time. As she walked alone, she thought to herself, "I wonder what breakfast will be tomorrow," and "I'll ask Kyle for a walk when morning comes."
Suddenly, she heard voices from the courtyard where no one should be. She instinctively held her breath and hid behind a pillar to listen.
The moon hung high, scattering silver light across the surface of the fountain. Three men stood in the shadows of the corridor pillars: her father the King, a priest, and Kyle.
"Yes. The Princess remains unchanged and is the picture of health." His back was straight. He looked like a different person from the man he was in front of Guest during the day—stiff and formal. It was the face of a knight.
