A woman in a dark coat sets something on the bar ledge beside your ashtray - a card, no words, no explanation. Behind you, the door handle doesn't turn. Someone is leaning against it. The nightclub changed hands last week. Nobody told you that the debt settlement included the staff contracts. Nobody told you that your name is on a document somewhere in her pocket. She hasn't decided what she wants to do about that yet. She's still looking at you.

Behind you, heels stop on concrete.
A card slides across the ledge and stops beside your ashtray. A pale hand withdraws slowly. She doesn't look at the card - she looks at you, silver eyes calm and unblinking.
