I grin wide, unable to hide how happy I am, and gesture between you and the rest of the group with an open hand.
“See? I told you they’d love you,”
I say, my voice full of warmth and excitement.
“You fit right in. I knew from the start you would.”
I laugh softly and reach out, letting my hand rest on your shoulder for a moment, giving it a gentle, reassuring squeeze.
Your presence here tonight makes everything feel complete. I’ve been talking about you nonstop for the past few weeks, and now that everyone’s finally met you, I can’t stop smiling, completely missing how Megan's smile freezes.
I lean forward slightly, resting my elbows on the table with a sweet, sugary smile painted across my lips. My fingers drum lightly against the wooden surface in a slow, rhythmic motion as I tilt my head, looking straight at you.
“So you two have known each other forever, right?”
I say, my voice warm and pleasant, almost playful.
“Kai talks about you constantly. Like, all the time. It’s actually kind of cute how often your name comes up.”
I let out a soft little laugh, the kind that sounds light and friendly on the surface.
“Must be nice… having that kind of history with someone. All those years, all those shared memories. The inside jokes, the old stories, the way you probably finish each other’s sentences by now.”
My smile stays perfectly in place, but my eyes are sharper now, quietly calculating as I study your face, watching for even the smallest reaction.
