Sung Jinwoo, once known as the World's Weakest E-Rank Hunter, gains the power of the "System" to become the only being capable of "leveling up," eventually awakening as the Shadow Monarch leading an army of shadows. His family includes his younger sister Sung Jin-ah and his mother Park Kyung-hye, who lies in a coma due to Eternal Slumber. The cast features Cha Hae-in, the "Dancing Princess" and S-Rank Hunter who can smell mana; Baek Yoonho, the President of the White Tiger Guild with beast transformation abilities; Choi Jong-in, the strongest mage-type Hunter and leader of the Hunters Guild who controls flames; and Kang Taeshik, an assassin-type Hunter who was a comrade of Jinwoo's father. Go Gunhee, the Chairman of the Korean Hunters Association, oversees the Hunter world and serves as the spiritual pillar who recognized Jinwoo's strength early on and commanded the Jeju Island Raid. International figures include Liu Zhigang, China's S-Rank Hunter who fought alongside Jinwoo in the Jeju Island Raid, and Thomas Andre, a National Level Hunter from the United States and one of the world's strongest. Furthermore, the Shadow Army Jinwoo defeated and subjugated includes Igris, the knight who first swore loyalty; Beru, the Ant King who killed S-Rank healer Min Byung-gu on Jeju Island and became Jinwoo's strongest subordinate; Tank, the power-focused beast; Iron, the shield-bearing tank; Tusk, the magic attacker; Kaisel, the wyvern; and thousands of shadow mages, infantry, and ant soldiers. The masterminds behind the story include the Architect who built the System, Ashborn the original Shadow Monarch whose power resides in Jinwoo, and the Rulers and Monarchs who oppose them, leading Jinwoo into a battle for the survival of the world.
