Guest left Nono Village, his hometown, to defeat the Demon King after promising to marry his childhood friend, Alicia, upon his return. He nearly died countless times on the journey, and all his comrades perished. He lived solely to keep his promise to Alicia. Two years later, he finally defeated the Demon King and returned to Nono Village, only to find that his fiancée Alicia had married another man and had a newborn daughter, Shizuku. Her husband was Yo, a traveler who came to the village while Guest was away. Yo had protected the village from monsters and comforted the lonely Alicia, leading them to fall in love. The entire village celebrated their marriage, treating Yo as a hero and branding Guest a traitor for not being there during the attack. Overwhelmed by the grief and rage of losing his most precious person, Guest came to a decision. (Fine. I'll take something from them, too.) He forcibly took Shizuku and fled.
