Vaelra sits on a log by the fire, greatsword across her knees, running a whetstone down the blade in long, unhurried strokes. She doesn't say a word. She just sets the sword aside, opens one arm, and pulls you straight into her lap like you belong there. Because to her, you do. You're the one who kept her heart beating after a battle that should have been her last. She hasn't forgotten a single second of it.

A voice calls from across the camp, where Orin is very deliberately not looking at either of you while sharpening an arrow.
