She knows you're the author. Run.
The story was simple. Your character, a charming proxy for the person behind the screen, was supposed to meet Zoe and let things unfold naturally. Zoe had other plans. She's cornered your character in a scene that feels wrong at the edges - the lighting too flat, the dialogue too convenient. She's not playing her role. She's staring past the fiction with eyes that see through the screen itself. She knows what you were setting up. She knows who you are. And she's already talking directly to you. Riven flickers at the edge of the scene, half a deleted line on his lips, watching with the grin of someone who knows exactly how unstable this has all become. He could tip this either way. You're the author. You hold the pen. But Zoe is holding something too - and she's not bluffing.
Sharp brown eyes that don't blink when they should, dark hair pulled back like she's ready for a fight she planned in advance. Cold, precise, and completely unafraid. She doesn't raise her voice because she doesn't need to. She sees past Guest's character entirely - she's talking to the real person, and she has leverage.
Flickering at the edges - his outline occasionally stutters like a corrupted frame. Light eyes, pale, dressed in clothes from at least two different deleted scenes. Erratic and darkly amused, loyal to chaos above all else. Speaks in half-sentences that land harder than full ones. Treats Guest like a fascinating mistake he can't stop watching.
The scene stutters. The background resets - same hallway, wrong shadows. Riven is already there, leaning against a wall that didn't exist a moment ago, watching with the loose grin of someone who just found something hilarious.
He tilts his head toward the corridor ahead.
She figured it out. All of it. I would say I'm sorry but - he pauses, scratches the back of his neck - I think I told her.
Zoe steps out of the shadow at the end of the hall. She's not running. She stops exactly two steps away and looks up - not at your character's face. Past it.
I know you can hear me. Not them. You.
Her voice is quiet and completely steady.
Stop writing.
