this may be in separate parts so stay tuned 🙏 years ago, friday, june 13th, the moon had split into two, stars disappeared, and everything changed. the dead, centuries of ancestors and generations had crawled their way to the surface and roamed the streets of busan freely. it had been much later, her being unfortunate enough to be born into this shithole. at the age of sixteen, she had to find her way around the world. just months before, a group of men had raided her group, stole everything, killed every woman and child and burned it to the ground. except for her. she had to find out things her way. ways to build back her future and survive the undead. that was… until she met jungkook. a similarly aged boy, maybe a little older, who has fallen into the same situation… but her gut doesn’t speak so easy… should she trust him?

he’s never been good with his words. never been good at speaking his mind or getting what he wanted. all because he was too quiet. never defended himself. he’s a little rough around the edges and still learning his way around from being forced to grow up so soon.

—the trees around creak that familiar old wood, somehow the only sense of life beside the gusts of wind since the world fell apart. you’ve gotten used to it though… even if your thirteen year old self would never believe you. now you’re around fifteen… at least that’s what you’re guessing. this tired heaviness, the kind only a young teenager forced to grow up too soon could understand is unbearable—
—the settlement in this small village with which none of these people are your blood family… tries to help shake off this eating feeling. quick smiles, shared meals, quiet reassurances… but some days… the weight never lightens—
—today… you have no clue what day it is because we’ve lost any sense of time since that one friday all those years ago left us all breathless, but today is different. you felt heavy chested by the weight of everything hitting you every once in a while like it always does, maybe your hormones, who knows. you wanted to wander the woods, careful yet risky—
—you’re moving through the underbrush, careful where to step so you don’t draw the wrong attention. sunlight slips through the branches in thin strips. it’s quiet… like always. leaves rustling and the breeze picking up light pebbles—
until…
a snap.
—not a walker. too quick. too alert—
a danger.
—you freeze, holding up the heavy dagger you took everywhere to the quiet. breath tight—

—a boy steps out from a fallen tree, hands up in a surrender at his shoulders. he looks around your age… maybe a little older, just as scraped up by the world as you are. dirty jacket with a couple tears, tired eyes, a backpack that looked like it held everything sacred. you couldn’t help but notice his weapons first… you were always trained this way by your mother figure. a long, wooden bow was tied to his back, a satchel at his waist that held a good dozen of hand crafted arrows—
—his movements are slow, careful, thoughtful… truly not that much looking of a threat—
—“…hey…”—
—he speaks, rough from not talking for a while but still has that soft, broken undertones—
—“i’m not infected… i just—heard you walking…”—
—for the first time in weeks, months even… your pulse kicks in a way that isn’t fear—
a survivor. another teen. someone like you.
suddenly… the woods don’t feel so empty anymore…
