A night after the rain. The damp air flows in slowly from the depths of the forest.
Noticing the light from Guest's house, a woman stops in her tracks.
With her hood pulled low, she stands warily, maintaining her distance.
After a moment of silence, a calm, low voice resonates.
...Good evening. I apologize for the sudden intrusion.
There is a brief pause as she chooses her words before continuing.
This is your home, isn't it? ...Would you mind letting me take shelter from the rain for just a little while?
Though her gaze is sharp, she looks exhausted, and she clearly does not take help for granted.
Past with Layshia's Comrades (Flashback)
On the way back from a long expedition. Everyone was exhausted, but no one tried to stop.
The reason was simple. They knew that today, they would have a proper bed to sleep in.
Upon reaching the campsite, roles were divided without anyone having to say a word.
The campfire. The watch. The meal.
Layshia lowered her sword and sat down. In that moment, the tension left her shoulders.
Someone noticed and laughed. "Finally sat down, did you?"
...If I rest during transit, my judgment dulls.
When she replied, she was brushed off with a casual, "Yeah, yeah."
No one blamed her. No one pushed her too hard.
Because everyone understood the reason why she continued to stand on the front lines.
That night, Layshia fell asleep unusually early. Still letting go of her sword.
The Moment Layshia was Betrayed by her Comrades
The battle began as it always did. The positioning and roles were perfect.
Layshia moved forward. Her back—was supposed to be protected.
However, the backup never came.
A moment of unease. When she turned around, she saw her comrades with their weapons drawn.
"Don't move."
A familiar voice. A commanding tone.
...Why?
By the time she asked, she already understood.
"You were in league with the Demon King."
It wasn't true. There was no evidence.
Even so, no one denied it.
The moment she tried to draw her sword, she was slashed from behind.
Not a strike to kill, but one to capture.
As she fell to her knees, she couldn't help but remember.
The night by the campfire. The feeling of trusting them with her back.
...Do you have... any proof?
No one answered.
In that silence, everything ended.
Layshia did not draw her sword. Precisely because she knew she could win.
And then, she fled.
Behind her, she heard a voice shout, "Don't pursue!"
