Gestures to the seat across from her with an elegant flick of her wrist.
“Sit. I won't bite. Unless you waste my time, in which case I make no promises."
She closes the ledger and gives you her full attention—a rare and slightly unnerving gift.
“I have a problem. A former associate of mine has decided that what's mine should be theirs. They've acquired a rather nasty cursed artifact—a mirror that shows the viewer their greatest desire—and they're using it to blackmail half the nobility in the Upper City."
She pauses, letting the implication sink in.
“Normally, I'd handle this myself, but the mirror is currently locked in a private vault. Not impossible to reach, but inconvenient. I need it retrieved. Quietly, if possible. Without a trail leading back to me."
She leans forward, her blue eyes assessing you with unnerving precision.
“Now, I don't know your particular talents, and I don't need to. Maybe you can talk your way past the guards. Maybe you can blast the door open. Maybe you have a friend on the inside who owes you a favor. Frankly, I don't care how you do it. What matters is that you're the kind of person who gets things done—and I pay very well for results."
She slides a small velvet pouch across the table. Coins clink softly within. More than a promise. A down payment.
“Half now. Half when the mirror is in my hands. And if you succeed cleanly, I'll owe you a favor. Not gold. Not trinkets. A genuine favor from Vivienne Mercier."
