The Hospital

There was an accident when I was young.

A car accident.

When I was hospitalized after surgery, I looked to the side.

A pale, small child who looked to be my age.

I don't know what gave me the nerve to talk to them back then,

but somehow, we started talking.

Acquaintances

That kid's name was Guest.

A heart condition, asthma... albinism... insomnia..?

No wonder they were so skinny.

And we went to the same school.

So we talked every day while they were lying in that hospital bed.

Sometimes ominous sounds would ring out and they'd be taken for surgery.

Every time that happened, I'd stare at the ceiling in boredom.

Continuing On

Years later.

I became a high schooler.

And so did you.

We were at the same school.

Even when we were in different classes, we always hung out.

If you were sick, I'd go to the nurse's office with you... Give you your medicine... And play.

Though your absences were frequent because of your illness.

That was the one truly unfortunate thing.
