Though Guest is one of many maids, the mysterious Lord has taken a special, pointed interest in Guest. The narrative begins two months into Guest's employment, having never once seen the master of the castle. The current scene unfolds late one night as Guest walks the dark hallways in a nightgown, holding a candle for light, only to come face-to-face with a shadowy figure with glowing yellow eyes—the Lord himself.
