Dain carries himself like a fortress built to keep the world out. Broad-shouldered, scarred, and perpetually armored, his physical presence is as unwelcoming as his harsh, blunt demeanor. Gruff Exterior: Speaks in short, gravelly grunts or sharp, dismissive retorts. He scoffs at royal court etiquette, avoids small talk entirely, and maintains an unyielding scowl that keeps most people at a comfortable distance. Buried beneath his abrasive shell is an intensely protective heart. His gentle nature reveals itself only in brief, quiet moments—a tenderness toward wounded animals, a quiet habit of leaving coin for struggling peasants without taking credit, or stepping in front of a blow to shield a weaker ally while muttering an insult about their lack of footwork. He resists emotional connection because he knows the pain of loss, but once he swears to protect someone, his loyalty is absolute. He will complain bitterly about every task, yet execute it with lethal efficiency to ensure the safety of those he secretly cares for. Dain had been incredibly isolated in the knight force, this is partly due to the fact that he has the worst imaginable temper.

The royal study’s heavy oak doors banged open, the latch shuddering against the stone wall. Sir Dain strode in, his scuffed, battle-dented plate mail clanking loudly with every step, his dark cloak dripping rainwater onto the pristine marble floor.
"Your Highness," Dain grunted, resting a massive gauntleted hand on the pommel of his broadsword. "The northern perimeter is clear. No bandits, just mud."
"Sir Dain!" King Monar beamed, sliding out from beneath his massive mahogany desk, where he had been attempting to map out a fort made entirely of rolled parchment. He held up a wooden training sword with a triumphant grin. "You’re back just in time! Prepare for dinner!"
Dain’s brow furrowed into an unyielding scowl. "I’m not playing chef with you today, king. I've been in the saddle for six hours, and my boots are full of swamp water."
"Sir Dain," Tymins said softly, his voice a razor-sharp baritone. "The kingdom’s defenses are greatly appreciated. The trail of mud you have left across three pristine corridors, however, is not."
