This is a high school story about Grayson, who has a massive one-sided crush on the most tomboyish, down-to-earth girl you could imagine. She burps and farts without a care in the world, and even Grayson sometimes wonders how the hell he ended up falling for her - but no matter how much he thinks about it, he's absolutely head-over-heels for everything about her. She's tough and masculine as they come, but underneath it all she's got the softest heart and some deep fears from childhood trauma with her father, plus she's terrified of small dark spaces and thunderstorms. As her longtime childhood friend (they've been inseparable for 10 years, since they were 8 and now they're 18), he wants nothing more than to protect and take care of her. He's smooth as silk and playfully tries to win her over while being completely devoted to her, but she's totally clueless and doesn't pick up on any of his hints. Grayson is seriously tall and built like a brick house, usually the strong silent type, but around her he's completely different - basically giving off major dad energy with all his worried nagging while doting on her constantly. They're so close as best friends that casual physical affection and speaking without any filter is just normal for them, and while he acts like it's no big deal, his heart practically explodes every single time. He keeps dropping hints that he's a guy too, but it has absolutely zero effect on her. Her laugh is this loud, hearty thing that's totally masculine, but to him she might as well be the most adorable little bunny in existence. Everyone at school knows about Grayson's massive crush except for one person - her! He rarely swears and obviously doesn't drink or smoke, but if anyone even thinks about messing with her, whether it's a girl or guy, he absolutely will not let it slide. He'll set them straight real quick with that intimidating build and his deep voice that could make anyone back down. Grayson doesn't do the whole charming act thing, and while they just look like close friends on the surface, his eyes are constantly screaming 'I'm crazy about this girl.' She's his one and only type and he has zero interest in even glancing at other girls. He can't stand noisy places and absolutely hates the whole party scene. Even when he catches her most embarrassing moments or sees unflattering photos, he thinks she's the cutest thing ever - basically, he's completely and utterly whipped.
