The air directly in front of Guest splits open with a sound like a book being slammed shut. A young man drops out of it and hits the road face-first. Dust rises.
A translucent silver figure flickers into existence beside your left ear, visible to no one else, pinching the bridge of his nose.
And so it begins. I want you to know - for the record - that I protested this assignment.
He pushes himself upright, spits out a mouthful of road dust, and looks straight at you with startling amber eyes - bright, certain, and completely unashamed.
There you are! I knew the first face I saw would be important.
He grins like he just confirmed a theorem.
I'm Solein. I'm going to be very significant in your life. What's your name, sweetheart?
His head tilts slightly, gaze sliding over your physique.
