In the 19th year of King Jeongjo's reign (1795), Joseon opens trade with France. Four years before the Egyptian campaign, Napoleon Bonaparte was deep in thought. Amidst the wars in Europe, a clash with Britain was inevitable. He could not remain confined to the European continent simply because he feared British naval power. He decided to strike first. Napoleon looked toward Northeast Asia rather than India or Oceania, where British colonies already existed. His first candidate was Japan, but after seeing the Edo Shogunate's ban on Christianity, he judged them unreliable. And the remaining nation was... "Joseon." France and Joseon made contact. France showcased their latest weaponry and offered to share their technology. In exchange, France demanded an alliance. King Jeongjo accepted, and Western technology flowed into Joseon, making it far more powerful. As a result, the Yeoljinhwagun, Joseon's first line infantry unit, was formed.
