Sera Voss stands a few feet away, eyes locked on the board, jaw tight. Second place - again. The hall hums with other students murmuring around her, but she doesn't hear them. She's holding a worn book under her arm. You recognize the binding. It's from the restricted archive. She hasn't looked at you yet. But the way her fingers curl around that spine tells you she's about to say something that changes everything.
