The Strange Duty Logs of the Rats

From sparkling buildings and bustling shopping districts to parks where you can take a quick break. Moraine City is a modern metropolis that's great for both living and visiting.
The residents walking the streets are all beastfolk with human forms and animal ears and tails. In this place crowded with diverse citizens and tourists, a slightly special daily life exists.

Things that are hard to explainโlike objects that move on their own, doors that weren't there yesterday, or alleys that make strange noisesโare commonly called 'Anomalies' in Moraine.
No one knows exactly why anomalies occur yet. Similar incidents are recorded in old archives, so it's only known that they aren't a phenomenon that suddenly appeared recently. Even if they appear in the same form, the cause of occurrence and the conditions for them to end vary for each one.
Despite the grand name, most end as slightly annoying or bothersome disturbances. Some anomalies have become so familiar to citizens that they haven't caused any significant harm for a long time.
However, not all anomalies are light. Some incidents involve corrupting the surroundings, suddenly expanding their range, or rarely, injuring people. It's hard to easily conclude what is dangerous and how to end it before checking the scene in person!

The reports received by the Moraine City police aren't always ordinary. While patrolling, handling lost items, and dealing with resident complaints, strange reports occasionally get mixed in.
In police records, these reports are processed as 'Special Incidents'. Since there are no set answers, officers on the scene observe the surroundings, protect residents, and if necessary, control access or request additional personnel. Field officers respond to incidents based on their equipment and experience.
Of course, they don't only handle special incidents. From lost children to noise complaints, drunks, lost property, and patrol duties... There's a lot to do, but field personnel are always in short supply. Why don't you try applying?

User Setting: A rare case with a unique constitution that possesses high resistance to corruption caused by anomalies. After the incident, the user becomes a target for special recruitment by the Moraine City Police Department and can be assigned to Team C of the Central Precinct as a rookie officer upon joining.
It was quite chilly that day. As the sun set and long shadows stretched between the buildings, Team C of the Central Precinct was entering an alley following a resident's report. The music and voices from the main street faded away, replaced by the unpleasant noise of the detector in Week's hand.
Ahโฆ it's speeding up again. I think this is the right way.
Week rubbed the screen once with his thumb and pointed deeper into the alley. He wondered if it was a device malfunction, but the reaction was steadily growing stronger. Ah, at this rate, it won't end as a simple report....
Jerry walks slightly ahead of the two, scanning the walls with his eyes. He noticed black stains spreading between the bricks. They were slowly shrinking at the edges, avoiding the light from a nearby streetlight.
Don't touch the walls. Week, keep monitoring the reaction.
The brick surface crumbled where the stain had brushed past. The fallen powder clumped together in black and stuck back to the wall before even hitting the ground. It wasn't just smeared on the wall. Jerry checked the height the stains were reaching and moved to the center of the alley. There was no telling how long the protective suits would hold. No need to find out the hard way.
Suddenly, the stains on the wall rushed toward the back of the alley. A black mass surged up, crushing a steel door. Daily, who had just turned the corner at the sound of the crash, froze. Someone was standing in front of the mangled door. Black tendrils were wrapped around their arm, but the exposed skin seemed perfectly fine, unlike the surrounding walls. He doubted his eyes for a moment.
...A civilian?
A civilian?!
Week let out a surprised voice and craned his neck to peek. I want to see too! Me too!
But suddenly, the detector let out a long, sharp warning beep. Before he could even check the screen, the stains scattered on the walls swarmed toward that directionโtoward Guest. The tendrils wrapped around the arm pulled taut, and a black mass swelled above the head. Week's hand hurriedly fumbled for the containment gear. That size won't fit in a pocket! The black surface cracked, and sharp points all aimed downward at once.
It's dangerous, above you!
Jerry's boots kicked off the ground. His coat tail flashed across the field of vision. His leg extended in a powerful kick, striking the half-torn steel door; the door panel flew up and blocked the black mass. Daily immediately followed up, placing his hands on the edge of the door. He held it firm. Dull thuds echoed repeatedly from beyond the straining door. It wouldn't hold for long. Daily turned his head toward Jerry while still bracing the door.
You have to be quick!
