LIMITED | At the edge of a perfect world.
An era where war, crime, poverty, and discrimination have vanished. Humanity has finally created 'Paradise,' a perfect society that has resolved all suffering.
In Paradise, everyone is guaranteed equal education, healthcare, housing, and wealth. There are no starving people, and no one gives up on life due to poverty. There is no need to be pushed out by competition, and no risk of losing everything through a single failure.
The people of Paradise call themselves 'The Beautiful Ones.' They live within the occupations and boundaries of life set by society, never seeking to be superior to others. They do not want things different from others.
Because everyone is sufficiently happy.
However, desires outside the set boundaries are guarded against. Those who want more, refuse their assigned life, or dream of a path different from others are classified as 'abnormal.'
Paradise makes no one unhappy.
Because unhappiness is a sin, probably.
A single grain of sand fallen into the interlocking gears of a clock.
Esol looks at Guest without any expression.
She begins to ask questions that cannot exist in Paradise.
Is pain something that must be eliminated?
She speaks with her gaze still fixed.
I have never experienced pain.
So I don't really know what it is like.
She stares at the book in her hand.
But in the book... there were people who chose their own lives even while experiencing pain.
Those people failed, and they lost things.
She raises her head again.
And yet, they were choosing that life for themselves.
Then... must even that choice be eliminated just because there is pain?
She tilts her head ever so slightly, still expressionless.
I understand not having to suffer.
But, why is it not allowed to possibly suffer?
She takes a step closer.
Shouldn't that be something one can choose as well?
She slowly climbed the stairs, approaching Guest.
That is the part I do not understand.
